It rained cats and dogs this morning at about 11:30 local time. The raindrops fell quickly enough that the gutters couldn’t accommodate the downpour. Broad rivulets of water dashed directly off the roof, visible from the window in my office.
While the turbulent weather was much more hazardous and damaging in other parts of the metro area, here it was just a magnificent late spring storm with thunder, lightning, and heavy rain. By the time my lunch hour started at noon, the heaviest rain had subsided to a mild shower. But the waters from the deluge were still draining from the trees and the rooftops.
To understand what made this circumstance my lucky day, you need to know a closely-guarded secret about me. I’m a puddlejumper. Since childhood, it’s been nearly impossible for me to resist walking through, splashing in, and even jumping into water puddles whenever I have a chance!
Knowing that there would be puddles as close as our parking lot was just more than I could resist today. So, when my lunch break started, I postponed consuming any calories, donned my raincoat and TEVA sandals, and headed outside.
It was glorious! Warm air. Light rain. And puddles everywhere! I walked three blocks and loved every minute of the warm water bathing my toes. And that’s not to mention that, in those three blocks, I bent down three different times to pick up stray pennies found on the pavement!
Puddlejumping PLUS finding three pennies! It’s so refreshing to be reminded in simple ways how marvelous it is to be alive. It really is my lucky day!
What happened in your life today that refreshed you?
