The technologies of social media – such as facebook and linkedin – have transformed the opportunities for networking since we’re no longer limited by geographic proximity and schedule conflicts. That said, I think it’s probably helpful to differentiate the “fruits” of networking sites with respect to employment. I’ll highlight linkedin and facebook as “apples” and “oranges” in one important way.

Thanks to all those local job seekers who participated in the discussion last night, “Best Practices for Internet Job Seeking!” My presentation recommended several “best practices” for using the big job boards (monster, careerbuilder, hotjobs), as well as numerous other resources and ideas.
